	Stone : Chrysoprase Carved : Chanthaburi, Thailand Item : #carving1 Design : Carving of Cat and Mice Origin : Tanzania Treatments : None Size : 140 x 90 x 50 mm Price : PRICE ON APPLICATION Comments : When I first saw this carving is was a case of WOW!!! I couldn't believe the detail and life-like nature of the cat and mice. This was carved by a true craftman who has a great imagination and superb skill. I love the whole appeal of the piece, the way the cat is crouched down and stalking the five mice who are trying to steal nibbles from a piece of chocloate that has fallen on the grass. Everything about this carving is so life-like. You can just feel that the cat is about to pounce, ears bent forward, eyes keen and a hungry grin. The mice tentatively sniff the air and look around for any danger. This carving is from one solid piece of beautiful green chrysoprase. The chocolate is actually worked from some of the matrix rock that was attached to the chrysoprase and is testament to the imagination of the carver that he left it there and worked it into the setting... indeed its like everything revolves around the piece of chocolate (bit like real life isn't it). The detail is simply the best I've come across. There are alot of cheap rough looking carvings out there that are very elementary and look like they have been done by an amateur. This carving is a very different story and is at the top end of the scale. The detail in the creatures is astounding and you can just feel the texture of the fur. The muscles in the cat's body are so real and the mice are very mouse-like indeed... I especially like their ears. The way the carver has worked the blades of grass in layers is amazing as well. This is one very unique and special piece.

	Stone : Ruby and Zoisite Carved : Chanthaburi, Thailand Item : #carving2 Design : Carving of Baby Dragon Resting Amid Ferns On A Mossy Rock Origin : Tanzania Treatments : None Size : 65 x 45 x 35 mm Price : SOLD Comments : A perfect little baby dragon curled up and resting on a mossy rock amid ferns. Its as if he was just awoken from a doze and calmly gazes around. He certainly doesn't seem too concerned about anything and looks like he is about to drop off to sleep again. This is another fine example of a carving by a true master. The detail is astounding... just look at the scales and the dragon's expression. It is so life-like the way the dragon is curled up with its tail wrapped around itself. This was carved from a solid piece of ruby and zoisite. The ruby forms as large hexagonal crystals (not of the transparent sort) and if you look carefully you can sort of see the hexagon impression where the dragon is resting. I love the way the carver has used his imagination and worked with the two colours of the rocks. The green of the zoisite makes a lovely mossy rock and ferns. The ruby red dragon is simply perfect... just think, a dragon carved from ruby! A very fine unique carving.
