I couldn't believe the detail and life-like nature of the cat and mice. This was carved by a true craftman who has a great imagination and superb skill. I love the whole appeal of the piece, the way the cat is crouched down and stalking the five mice who are trying to steal nibbles from a piece of chocloate that has fallen on the grass. Everything about this carving is so life-like. You can just feel that the cat is about to pounce, ears bent forward, eyes keen and a hungry grin. The mice tentatively sniff the air and look around for any danger. This carving is from one solid piece of beautiful green chrysoprase. The chocolate is actually worked from some of the matrix rock that was attached to the chrysoprase and is testament to the imagination of the carver that he left it there and worked it into the setting... indeed its like everything revolves around the piece of chocolate (bit like real life isn't it). The detail is simply the best I've come across. There are alot of cheap rough looking carvings out there that are very elementary and look like they have been done by an amateur. This carving is a very different story and is at the top end of the scale. The detail in the creatures is astounding and you can just feel the texture of the fur. The muscles in the cat's body are so real and the mice are very mouse-like indeed... I especially like their ears. The way the carver has worked the blades of grass in layers is amazing as well. This is one very unique and special piece.

The quality of the cabbing is first class and has been professionally done. The polish is superb.
	Stone : Chrysoprase Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2009 Item : #170 Design : Emerald Step Cut Origin : Marlborough, Queensland, Australia Treatments : None Weight : 4.35 carats Clarity : Eye Clean, Translucent Size : 11 x 9 x 6 mm Price : SOLD Comments : The chrysoprase that comes from Marlborough is considered to be some of the best in the world. The green is about as apple as you can get and is unlike any other stone. It is wonderfully translucent and glows with a soft inner light. Generally you only see this sort of material cabbed which is a shame because when it is facetted properly its entire personality changes and becomes truely something unique. 	Stone : Chrysoprase Cut By : Australian Cutter Item : #cab1 Design : Cabochon Origin : Marlborough, Queensland, Australia Treatments : None Weight : 5.5 carats Clarity : Eye Clean, Translucent Size : 14 x 10 x 4 mm Price : SOLD Comments : This is an especially fine quality oval cabochon of chrysoprase. This material comes from Marlborough and the colour and translucency of this gem is devine. I've said it is eye clean however on the underneath there are several small discolourations... these do not detract from the appearance of this gem at all and they are not visible from the top. I'm not really sure how I would describe this colour, sort of a pastal minty green with a dollop of cream mixed in. The quality of the cabbing is first class and has been professionally done. The polish is superb. A very very beautiful stone!
