Madeira Citrine, Sunflare, Uruguay, #345
Zoom

Stone : Madeira Citrine
Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2011
Item : #345
Design : Sunflare (Doug Menadue)
Origin : Uruguay
Treatments : Heated?
Weight : 4 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 11 x 11 x 7 mm
Price : $240 AUD

Comments : A beautiful rich and velvety madeira citrine from Uruguay. The gem has those wonderfully deep orange colours that this Uruguayan material is famous for. It is cut in my bright and flashy Sunflare design.

You can also see its "twin" which is a richly colour Uruguayan
amethyst cut in the same design, same size. Think of them as twin brother and sister. They are matched in terms of size and colour saturation and both are fine examples of their respective types. Simply stunning stones. I would love to keep them together when I sell them as they really do complement each other. An imaginative jeweller could do amazing things with this combo.

Golden Citrine, Pentagram Pendant, Brazil, #295
Zoom

Stone : Golden Citrine
Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2010
Item : #295
Design : Pentagram Pendant (Doug Menadue)
Origin : Brazil
Treatments : Heated
Weight : 10.2 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 15 x 15 x 6.5 mm
Price : $400 AUD

Comments : A totally unique piece. This is a very striking golden citrine cut in a design that I specifically intended for a pendant. It is a low profile so it will sit well against the chest. There is a "frosted" pentagram on the reverse side that was very tricky to photograph but it is there. A golden colour zone runs through the centre of the gem from side to side... it looks like a golden cloud. This is something a little bit different and would look absolutely fabulous set in yellow metal.

Comments : I luv citrine! Its that golden colour that gets me. Anyone who says "Oh, its just quartz.", obviously hasn't seen a fine handcut citrine, especially one cut in this modern, flashy design. Each and every stone has its own beauty and personality and should be appreciated accordingly. This gem is a sweet little stunner and reminds me of a bubble-bee. :-)

Citrine, Rainbow, #44

Stone : Citrine
More Info Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2008
Item : #44
Design : Rainbow (a barion oval style, Jeff Graham)
Origin : Brazil
Treatments : None
Weight : 5.1 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 13.5mm X 10mm X 7.5mm
Price : $200 AUD

Comments : A wonderful, golden citrine cut in an oval design with good body. It has a beautiful flashiness about it and it very alive and sparkly. The colours are a lovely golden yellow, not the lemon yellow or often overly saturated whiskey colour. It is a perfect size for a ring and would really show up well. The gemstone is eye clean with no visible flaws or inclusions. There is some colour zoning but the colours mix nicely and are not overly saturated when viewing the stone from the face up. The finish on this stone is superb and the polish is mirror like. A very pleasing gem.

Citrine, Three Wise Men (Variation), #15

Stone : Citrine
Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2008
Item : #15
Design : Three Wise Men (Variation) (Jeff Graham)
Origin : Brazil
Treatments : Natural
Weight : carats
Clarity : Eye Clean, 5/5
Size :
Price : NOT FOR SALE

Comments : This unusually cut gemstone came about because I couldn't bring myself to grind away all that beautiful crystal I was cutting. When it came time to cut the crown there happened to be alot of nice clear stone remaining and I found myself relucant to cut it away. It was lovely clean, clear, golden citrine and the gemstone was telling me it wanted to be different to the design I was cutting. So what I did in keeping with the "5" sided nature of the design was to lengthen the girdle so that the rectangle facet was in the "phi" ratio, in this case 8mm X 5mm and thus managed to preserve the glorious crystal. This gem is one of my favourites and isn't for sale, only show. It has a significance for me in that it represented the first time that a stone really felt like it wanted to express itself and I had to make a conscious choice to let it be what it wanted to be or enforce what I wanted it to be. I'm happy to say that in the end the gemstone won.

Comments : The name citrine is derived from its lemon-yellow colour. It is a beautiful stone and actually quite a rare member of the quartz family. You wouldn't think so from the amount of citrine that is available in the marketplace. Alot of the commercial citrine is actually amethyst or smokey quartz that has been heated to the required temperatures in order to bring about a change in the colour. True natural citrine tends to be light in colour though dark, well saturated stone can be found. Almost all heat treated citrines will have some degree of red or dark orange tint about them which can be quite rich and alluring in its own right. Light citrine can also be heated to improve the colour.

Citrine comes in a range of colour tones and associated trade names. The darkest, richest and most expensive is Madeira citrine which also used to be called "ox-blood" citrine once upon a time. There is Rio-Grande citrine, golden citrine, and others. You can see a
colour chart for citrine on this page. Citrine is a very popular jewelry stone and can be cut in virtually any design. Citrine is readily available in nice clean large sizes.
