Comments : A beautiful rich and velvety madeira citrine from Uruguay. The gem has those wonderfully deep orange colours that this Uruguayan material is famous for. It is cut in my bright and flashy Sunflare design.

You can also see its "twin" which is a richly colour Uruguayan amethyst cut in the same design, same size. Think of them as twin brother and sister. They are matched in terms of size and colour saturation and both are fine examples of their respective types. Simply stunning stones. I would love to keep them together when I sell them as they really do complement each other. An imaginative jeweller could do amazing things with this combo.

Comments : I luv citrine! Its that golden colour that gets me. Anyone who says "Oh, its just quartz.", obviously hasn't seen a fine handcut citrine, especially one cut in this modern, flashy design. Each and every stone has its own beauty and personality and should be appreciated accordingly. This gem is a sweet little stunner and reminds me of a bubble-bee. :-)

Comments : This is one for the collectors. The design is based on the "All Seeing Eye" which is usually portrayed as an eye inside a triangle, often shown with radiating beams of light. I had a tough time trying to capture the eye effect but just couldn't seem to get it right. In one of the photos you can make out a darkish eye shape... the dark is due to reflection of the camera lens. In person it is fantastic with bright flashing rays of light around the eye. The design itself is quite a challenging one to cut and requires alot of patience and precision to get the eye and iris just right. A very different and unique gem.

Comments : This gemstone has a nice golden colour with a touch of smokey about it. There is good flash. As the name suggests it has a shape much like an acorn. It was designed as a ring stone and will require a custom seting made for it due to the depth and overall shape of the stone. There is a small feather veil inclusion.

Comments : A nice lightly coloured asscher cut citrine. This particular combination of colour, stone and cut is fast becoming a classic. The light tones show the windmill patterns that the asscher is famous for very nicely. The pics show more brown then what is actually in the gem which is very yellow and bright.

There are some pics that show the two asschers #217 and #211 next to each other. This is so you can compare the colours of the two stones. #217 is the lighter coloured gem.

Comments : A richly decadent Rio Grande citrine! This stunning gemstone is cut in the classic Asscher Cut and it works very well in this material. The gem shows lovely rich hues and tones and in real life it truely is something to behold. I like these darker coloured citrines for their fabulous interplay of colours... if creme brulee could be a gemstone, this is what it'd be. A very fine gemstone indeed.

Comments : This rich deep madeira citrine looks stunning cut in the classic Asscher Cut design. Before I cut it I thought that the madeira colour might be too dark for an Asscher but when I was finished I was pleasantly surprised that that was the case. It works very well in the Asscher and shows the patterns nicely. Comments : An absolutely stunning matched pair of rio-grande citrines cut in the classic Victoria Cut design. If only more people realised just how gorgeous citrine is... the rich, velvety tones and interplay of colours, the unique personality of each stone is very perceptible. These two gems are matched and came from the same piece of rough stone... these I call "siblings". And just like all twins they are the same yet different. One of these gems was deep in the colour zone and the other had a little bit of zoning. This gives them an individuality and makes them quite special. A very fine pair of gemstones!

Comments : This is a pretty groovey gemstone. The design is one of Fred Van Sant's original designs and is rarely seen cut. The design creates a honeycomb effect and suits the bright yellow golden colours of this citrine... afterall, when you think of fresh honeycomb what colour do you think of first? The pictures are more brown and caramel then the stone actually is... it is a bright and flashy yellow gold. I can see this stone as part of a matched suite : earrings, pendant and a ring.

Comments : This stone was found by a wonderful couple who came on a topaz digging tour with me. They had a bonanza of a day and found some great stone. They asked me to cut this gem for them as I mentioned that I like to cut big stones and this one certainly was that. Besides the topaz for which O'Briens Creek is famous, some excellent citrine, smokey and aquamarine is also found. This citrine was unearthed as a large water worn pebble. The couple have since informed me that they've had it professionally set by a master jeweller as a pendant and it looks absolutely fabulous!

Comments : A rich brandy coloured citrine cut in a fan variation. Its quite an unusual design and quite intriging and interesting. It would make for a very different and imaginative pendant. The shape of the design could represent the sun rising or setting over the horizon.

Comments : The name citrine is derived from its lemon-yellow colour. It is a beautiful stone and actually quite a rare member of the quartz family. You wouldn't think so from the amount of citrine that is available in the marketplace. Alot of the commercial citrine is actually amethyst or smokey quartz that has been heated to the required temperatures in order to bring about a change in the colour. True natural citrine tends to be light in colour though dark, well saturated stone can be found. Almost all heat treated citrines will have some degree of red or dark orange tint about them which can be quite rich and alluring in its own right. Light citrine can also be heated to improve the colour.

Citrine comes in a range of colour tones and associated trade names. The darkest, richest and most expensive is Madeira citrine which also used to be called "ox-blood" citrine once upon a time. There is Rio-Grande citrine, golden citrine, and others. You can see a colour chart for citrine on this page. Citrine is a very popular jewelry stone and can be cut in virtually any design.
