Victoria Regent Cut

Design : Victoria Regent Cut (Doug Menadue) Facets : 85

There are many cushion cuts out there but I have long been looking for just the right one. After much design effort I have finally come up with one that I am very happy with. The pavilion is very similar to Fred Van Sant's "Victoria Cut" but I have "relaxed" the corners a little so they are not quite as sharp and altered the crown pattern to make it, I think, a little more interesting. I am very happy with the results and this design works well in all materials. It has a very classic appearance and will fit any standard cushion setting without any difficulty. I have named the design to show it's "heritage".

Asscher Cut

Design : Asscher Cut (Classic) Facets : 73 or 65

Originally developed in the very early 1900's by Joesph Asscher, this classic diamond cut has become a firm favorite in the world of coloured gemstones. The Asscher creates a unique patterm that people refer to as the windmill pattern.

Depending on the type of stone being cut I will either cut the Asscher with four or five tiers of facets on the pavilion. I find that lower RI stones like quartz and beryl require five tiers (as pictured in the diagram) in order to produce a satisfactory pattern. Topaz, tourmaline, peridot, garnet, sapphires and other higher RI material is cut with four tiers. This four tier version is consistent with the original Asscher Cut design which some literature describes as having 58 facets. This count of 58 is comprised of 56 facets + 1 table facet + 1 culet facet and does not count the 8 girdle facets. The culet facet is like a small table but placed at the bottom of the stone. This is generally only done on diamonds over a certain size. On coloured gemstones this culet facet is not normally cut, rather the culet is cut to a point.

Egyptian Asscher Cut

Design : Egyptian Asscher Cut / Square Emerald Cut (Classic) Facets : 69

* This asscher creates a square pyramid (hence the name) in the centre and a very well defined zig-zag pattern showing in the four sides. On the pavilion there are 5 side facet tiers and 4 corner facet tiers.

Pharoah Cut

Design : Pharoah (Robert L. Hall) Facets : 165

This is a spellbinding design and I keep thinking "Art Deco" when I look at it. The design itself has alot of facets and is an exceptionally challenging design to cut. Works best in large stones.

PrincessLookAlike Cut

Design : Princess Look Alike (Alexandre Wolkonsky) Facets : 53

This is a variation on the classic Princess Cut.

SquareBrilliantCrownRadial Cut

Design : Square Brilliant (Evan Williams) Facets : 85

A very nice design that works well in all material. It has a star radial like pattern on the pavilion and a brilliant style crown.

Victoria Cut

Design : Victoria Cut (Fred Van Sant) Facets : 77

This design is a classic old-style cushion cut. The facet pattern is copied from the cuts used on four of the large famous diamonds : Cullinan II, Cullinan IV, Polar Star and the Victoria. This design can be cut in a range of ratios, from 1:1 (square) up to 1:1.3 (rectangle). If you are a fan of the famous diamonds, try this design in large silvery white O'Briens Creek topaz!
