2009 Season at O'Briens Creek and Mt Surprise

A foggy morning at the creek crossing.

Me early on in the season starting what would become a very big hole in the middle of O'Briens Creek.

View from "The Top Of The World". From here you can look out over the whole valley... spectacular!

Camping down by the banks of Elizabeth Creek. Its coming on evening after a big day digging. The bulls are down getting a drink.

Sunset shot... my trusty tin cup... been around the world that cup has and held a 1000 coffees!

Magestic trees on the banks of the creek.

Luv that kombi!

Swimming hole in Elizabeth Creek near the camping area.

An old Blitzen truck near the claim.

There's that kombi again out at the claim with the tinshed in the background. My hole is way over the back in the creek.

Yours truely in his hole... its getting pretty darn big now... its extends off to the right. Found some good topaz in this hole but move tons of dirt and rock to get it. It must have been about 37 degrees C that day and no shade! The sweat was poring off me.

A couple of topaz won from my hole... good big stones.

That's me... this year we had a stall down at Gemfest which is held annually at Anakie/Sapphire/Rubyvale on the Central Queensland Sapphire gemfields. It was a great experience and met heaps of wonderful people. Blew all my money at my favourite rough dealers' stall! Boy, he has some good stuff! :-)

My neighbours at Gemfest... they had pearls and chrysoprase from Queensland.

A fabulous couple of friends, Cec and Daisy. They've been coming up to O'Briens Creek for over 20 years and they know the place backwards. Cec is always ready with a story. We had a great day out digging that day.

Alright folks... so you think you've seen some aqua in your time. Well, when this walked in our door the other day we were absolutely astounded. The photos don't do this gem any justice. It was gemmy and a deep "santa maria" blue... it was the stone of a lifetime.

An amazing stone...

It weighed over 90cts... yup, big emerald cut is what I'm thinking! :-)
