Select Rough - Page 3

Page 1     Page 2     Page 3

What I want to do on this page is highlight some of the select rough stone that I have.

The idea is to give you an indication of some of the material I have and let you have first option on having it cut in a design that you want. Otherwise I'll cut them in due course in which ever design I happen to decide upon. So if you see something that you really like and think, geez... that'd make a fantastic Smith Bar (or something), let me know! :-)

This rough is not for sale as rough.

Smokey Quartz, O'Briens Creek, North Queensland, Australia

Stone : Smokey Quartz
Item : #r131
Origin : O'Briens Creek, North Queensland, Australia
Treatment : None
Weight : Large to Small
Clarity : Eye Clean to Very Slightly Included

Comments : I have a range of natural UNTREATED smokey quartz from O'Briens Creek, NQ. This is great material and ranges in tone and saturation from very light through to very dark. The vast majority of smokey quartz in the marketplace has been treated in some manner, such as being heated or irradiated. Natural untreated smokey quartz is a very beautiful gem when cut and this material has some quite lovely tones, like burnt umbers, raw umbers and bronzes. All of this material has been hand dug with much sweat and labour by moi. :-)

Large Amethyst Quartz, Brazil

Stone : Large Amethyst Quartz
Item : #r130
Origin : Brazil
Treatment : None
Weight : 85.4 ct
Clarity : Eye Clean

Comments : This is an awesome stone! Large EYE CLEAN amethyst are very scarce and this one is a beauty. It is ideally suited for a very large gemstone in the 20mm size range and being a crystal tip is nicely shaped. The colour is a nice medium/medium-dark saturation. I think this will cut an eye clean to at worst a very very slightly included gem. This is a truly unique piece of amethyst and will produce a treasured heirloom gem.

Bubblegum Pink Tourmaline, Nigerian

Stone : Bubblegum Pink Tourmaline
Item : #r128
Origin : Nigerian
Treatment : None
Weight : 14.5 ct
Clarity : Eye Clean

Comments : This is an exceptionally fine piece of bubblegum pink tourmaline from Nigerian. The colour is about as fine a pink as you could want. There is a hint of mint green towards one end but from past experience this is located in the rind of the crystal and will cut away. The crystal has an open "C" axis which means that it is clear and transparent when viewed down the length of the crystal. Alot of tourmaline has the "C" axis closed which means it is opaque and dark or black and the resulting gemstone can look overly darkish. The most desirable tourmaline will have an open "C". The "C" axis on this piece of rough is like a kind of golden peach... it is beautiful. It is ideally shaped for an Asscher Cut and I estimate that it will be about a 9x9mm stone.
