Comments : There is something about that beautiful natural blue colour in these topaz that come from O'Briens Creek. Natural blue topaz is truely a very pretty stone. They look gorgeous at night and are definitely gems of the evening. This design is one of my favorites and cuts a very flashy and bright gemstone. This gem is available through the Green Gem Foundation with all proceeds going to that cause.

Comments : A beautiful O'Briens Ck natural blue topaz. It is a nice soft blue and is cut in one of my octagon dome designs. If you are familiar with those amazing colourful geometric Moroccan tile designs that are found on walls of buildings and fountains and so forth, then you'll see the influence here in this gemstone design. It is a big stone and has lots of brilliance and flash... something special! Remember, all the topaz from O'Brien's Ck has been hand dug. No bulldozers have been used in the production of this gemstone.

Origin : O'Briens Creek, North Queensland, Australia
Treatments : None
Weight : 4.4 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 10 x 10 x 6.2 mm
Price : $220 AUD

Comments : This fine O'Briens Creek topaz is cut in a variation of an Octagon step cut. It has a stepped design all the way around until you get to the culet where the facets look like compass spikes. It is a very nice and interesting design and works well in topaz. This topaz actually has just the faintest touch of natural champagne colour however it is not that apparent until you put it beside a pure silver topaz. Something a little different.

Treatments : None
Weight : 19 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 12.5 x 12.5 x 10.5 mm
Price : $1330 AUD

Comments : Here is an exceptional natural champagne topaz from O'Briens Creek. The saturation is fairly light but the soft champagne colour is quite definite in person. The gem is very bright and lively, and I think the lovely champagne colour gives it a certain sophistication. This particular champagne colour is not that common here on the O'Briens Creek gemfield and are certainly scarcer then natural blues. This is truely a very fine gemstone.

Topaz, Spider, O'Briens Creek, Mt Surprise, North Queensland, Australia, #351
Zoom

Stone : Topaz
Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2011
Item : #351
Design : Spider (Bob Keller)
Origin : O'Briens Creek, Mt Surprise, North Queensland, Australia
Treatments : None
Weight : 12 carats / 25 carats set
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 16 x 16 x 6 mm
Price : $1180 AUD

Comments : The spider is back! Here is a beauty... its a well cut spider in an O'Briens Creek topaz. The topaz is nice, clear and with a little touch of blue that you can't really see in the pics. The pics show alot of grey but that is just coming through from the smokey glass surface. The "hand-shots" show how clear and silvery white the gem is. This stone is ideal for a totally unique pendant or as a ring. Its about the same diameter as a gold sovereign that you often see set into a ring. It is a relatively thin stone so it will have a low profile. I have seen it set as a pendent in yellow gold and it looks amazing. Catch a spider by the thread... :-)

17/11/2011 * This piece has been set in 9K yellow gold by a great jeweller in Cairns, Graham The Jeweller. This is a top piece of workmanship, handmade, nice and solid and I like the simple design alot. This is a beautiful pendant, totally unique.

Weight : 7 carats
Clarity : Very Very Slightly Included
Size : 13 x 13 x 4.5 mm
Price : $280 AUD

Comments : This is a fine O'Briens Creek topaz cut in a pendant design which shows the Maltese Cross. I designed this cut specifically for a pendant. It has a low profile and will sit well against the chest. The Maltese Cross is "frosted" on the reverse side (pavilion) and can be clearly seen through the large polished table. This is a unique piece and would look great as a pendant.

Comments : A fine O'Briens Creek topaz cut in a very interesting round "bar" cut. Kind of like a round version of the well known rectangular "Smith Bar" design. It creates a very effective and eye catching pattern and works very well. I think it would make a great pendant stone set in white metal. The gem is very bright and silvery white.

Comments : Something a little different... this O'Briens Creek topaz is cut in a design that shows a crescent moon on the crown and a five pointed star on the pavilion. Both of these are frosted so that the crescent and the star show up clearly. This would make a nice ring or pendant.

Topaz, Crusader's Shield (with Cross), O'Briens Creek, Mt Surprise, Australia, #83

Stone : Topaz
Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2008
Item : #83
Design : Crusader's Shield (with Cross) (Fred Van Sant)
Origin : O'Briens' Creek, Mt Surprise, North Queensland, Australia
Treatments : None
Weight : 5.44 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 11mm X 10mm X 7mm
Price : $270 AUD

Comments : This topaz is cut in a design which, as the name suggests, resembles a crusader's shield. On the front (crown) of the gemstone is a "frosted" cross. This corresponds to the front of the shield where a cross would normally be painted. In one of the photos I have outlined the cross so that it can clearly be seen. It would make a special gift for someone and a lovely ring or pendant. It is cut in clear O'Briens Creek topaz.

Stone : Topaz
Cut By : Doug Menadue, 2008
Item : #82
Design : Dodecahedron (Jeff Ford)
Origin : O'Briens' Creek, Mt Surprise, North Queensland, Australia
Treatments : None
Weight : 8.94 carats
Clarity : Eye Clean
Size : 11mm
Price : $360 AUD

Comments : Now for something a little bit different. This is one in a series of platonic and archimedean solids that I am planning to cut. Not really sure that it could be used in jewellery, its more as a curiousity. For those of a spiritual metaphysical mind, it could perhaps be used in various meditations or some other similar exercise. I could see for example how if one was to meditation laying on their back, the dodecahedron could be placed on the third eye. I have noticed various cheap platonic solid sets for sale out there but they are mass produced, very inaccurate and the quality of the rock they are cut from is not the best. This dodecahedron is precision cut in clear O'Briens Creek topaz.
